"You can be happy if you have a warm place to sleep and do not go to bed hungry."

"After living in an undeveloped country for a year, I learned that you can be happy if you have a warm place to sleep and do not go to bed hungry. Everything beyond that is gravy. Later, while reading about Zen Buddhism, I learned how 'desire' can be the root of much unhappiness, which made sense to me. I do like nice things and want nice things, particularly for my family, however, I do not let the desire for them, control me or my actions and always look back to my original thought, that all I need is a warm place to sleep and not to go to bed hungry. It is this perspective that keeps me grounded."
